Chennithala demands licence cancellation

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has called for the Kerala state government to revoke its approval for a brewery project in Palakkad's Elappully panchayat. He alleges that the firm, Oasis Commercial Pvt. Ltd., received permission without proper consent from relevant government departments and Left Democratic Front coalition partners.
Chennithala contends that Oasis is linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam and has a history of environmental violations, including groundwater contamination in Punjab. He criticizes the absence of a tender process and questions the necessity of the project, citing a 1999 policy decision against internal liquor production in Kerala.
The Chief Minister refutes these allegations, asserting that the approval process adhered to the state's Excise Policy and that the project aims to reduce reliance on imported Extra Neutral Alcohol . He emphasizes that the policy encourages the establishment of new units to boost local production and retain economic benefits within the state.
