Kochi resident was shot in front of family

A 65-year-old man from Kochi, N Ramachandran, was among the 26 tourists killed during a militant attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam area on April 22, marking the deadliest assault on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Ramachandran, a retired expatriate who had returned to settle in Kerala after decades in the Gulf, was on a family vacation with his daughter and grandchildren. He was fatally shot while riding a horse, reportedly in front of his daughter and grandchildren, as militants opened fire on unsuspecting tourists enjoying the scenic locale. His daughter, Aarti Menon, and her children had traveled from abroad to join the family holiday.
Back in Kochi, Ramachandran's family is grappling with the tragedy. His wife, a heart patient, remains unaware of his death. The family has informed her that he sustained injuries and is being flown back for treatment, fearing the news might adversely affect her health. Congress legislator T. Siddique, who met with the family, confirmed that Ramachandran's mortal remains would be airlifted to Delhi, with his daughter and grandchildren accompanying the body.
