Naveen Babu's family moves High Court for CBI probe

The family of ADM Naveen Babu has moved the Kerala High Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into his death, saying raising the state police investigation into the incident has been unsatisfactory, failing to address the potential homicide nature of the case.
Naveen Babu, whose sudden death in a high-profile case drew widespread attention, was found dead under mysterious circumstances. While the local police have labelled it a case of suicide, his family believes that his death might have been orchestrated through foul play. The family's plea comes after their dissatisfaction with the ongoing police investigation and their concerns over the inadequacy of the process.
The appeal for a CBI inquiry has been lodged after the single bench of the Kerala High Court previously dismissed a similar request. According to the family, the decision not to investigate the case further in-depth was made without a proper review of the facts.
The plea argues that this lack of investigation has left them without the clarity needed to understand the true cause behind Naveen Babu’s death. Manjusha, in her appeal, emphasized that she and her family deserve justice and a transparent investigation into the matter, which they believe can only be delivered through an external probe.
The single bench’s dismissal of the earlier plea has prompted the family to take their case to a division bench. The division bench will now review the merits of the request for a CBI probe and decide whether further action should be taken. Family members have expressed their frustration over the state police’s handling of the case, pointing out lapses in the investigative approach that they believe have allowed critical details to be overlooked.
The case has sparked a public debate over the effectiveness of local law enforcement agencies in handling sensitive cases, especially when there is a perceived lack of progress or transparency. Calls for an independent investigation have intensified as concerns grow about the objectivity of the police inquiry. Supporters of the family’s call for a CBI investigation argue that an external agency is better equipped to handle cases that may involve complex motives or individuals in positions of power, ensuring that no stone is left unturned.
As the matter moves forward in the courts, the public’s attention remains fixed on the outcome of the legal proceedings and whether the CBI will be asked to take over the case. If the division bench decides in favor of a CBI probe, it will mark a significant shift in the investigation, potentially uncovering new evidence and leading to a deeper analysis of the circumstances surrounding Naveen Babu’s untimely demise.
