Kabaddi Dispute Turns Deadly in Tiruchi Village

A 39-year-old man with a criminal record was fatally attacked by a group of seven individuals in Kilikoodu village, situated on the outskirts of Tiruchi, on Thursday night. The incident, reportedly stemming from a disagreement over a kabaddi tournament, also left two others injured.

The victim, identified as P. Ashokkumar, a resident of Kilikoodu and employed as a driver, had multiple criminal cases pending against him, including one for murder. According to police reports, Ashokkumar approached fellow villager T. Ponnusamy, 69, expressing frustration over his exclusion from a kabaddi match held in the village. As the conversation progressed, Ponnusamy's son, Buviharan, 18, joined them.

While the trio was walking, they were confronted by M. Balakrishnan, the organiser of the kabaddi tournament, accompanied by six others. An altercation ensued, escalating into violence. The group allegedly attacked Ashokkumar with machetes and other weapons, leading to his death. Ponnusamy and Buviharan sustained injuries during the assault and were subsequently admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for treatment.
