Anbumani Declares Leadership as PMK Faces Internal Turmoil
Hyphen Web Desk
---

The internal discord became public when S. Ramadoss criticised his son's leadership, accusing him of mismanaging the party and alleging personal misconduct. In a press conference, the elder Ramadoss claimed that Anbumani had thrown a bottle at his mother during a disagreement and accused him of lying and leading the party astray. These allegations have intensified the rift within the party, leading to a visible split among its members.
In response, Anbumani convened meetings with district-level leaders, urging them to initiate a membership drive over the next three weeks. He also announced plans for a state-wide yatra aimed at "reclaiming the rights of Tamil Nadu," signalling his intention to consolidate support and reaffirm his leadership. During these meetings, Anbumani removed several district secretaries, a move seen as an effort to assert control and discipline within the party ranks.
The leadership tussle has led to a division among PMK's elected representatives. Three of the party's five MLAs, along with general secretary Vadivel Ravanan, have publicly backed Anbumani, providing him with significant support. Conversely, MLAs G.K. Mani and A. Arul have aligned themselves with S. Ramadoss, highlighting the deepening factionalism within the party.
S. Ramadoss, maintaining his stance, has begun consulting legal and financial experts, indicating a possible move to challenge Anbumani's authority formally. He has also involved the party's non-political wing, the Social Improvement Society , in political activities, stating that SIS will assess the performance of party MLAs and functionaries, influencing candidate selection for the 2026 elections.
The public nature of the dispute has caused dismay among PMK cadres and functionaries. Many acknowledge S. Ramadoss's contributions to the Vanniyar community but believe a smooth leadership transition is essential for the party's future. The uncertainty over the party's direction has led to some members boycotting events, reflecting the internal unrest.
