Stalin Launches 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' to Bolster DMK's Grassroots Presence

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has initiated a comprehensive membership drive, 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu,' aiming to enrol at least 30% of voters at each polling station into the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The announcement was made during the party's general council meeting in Madurai, where a resolution was passed to conduct door-to-door campaigns highlighting the state government's welfare schemes and ongoing efforts to secure citizens' rights.

The initiative underscores the DMK's strategy to strengthen its grassroots network by engaging directly with the electorate. Party cadres are expected to reach out to households across Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the government's achievements and addressing local concerns.

This membership drive follows previous efforts by the DMK to expand its base, including the 'Ellorum Nammudan' online campaign launched in 2020, which aimed to enrol 2.5 million new members. The current campaign sets a more ambitious target, reflecting the party's intent to consolidate support ahead of the upcoming elections.

Political analysts view 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' as a proactive measure to counter emerging political entities like Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam , founded by actor Vijay in 2024. TVK has been actively organizing its cadre and has announced plans to contest the 2026 elections, potentially altering the state's political dynamics.

The DMK's focus on enrolling a significant portion of the electorate at the polling station level indicates a shift towards more localized political engagement. By aiming for 30% voter enrolment per station, the party seeks to ensure a robust presence in every constituency, thereby enhancing its electoral prospects.

In addition to membership drives, the DMK has been emphasizing its welfare initiatives, such as the fare-free bus travel scheme for women, which received substantial allocations in the 2025-26 state budget. These programs are central to the party's narrative of inclusive development and social justice.

The 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign is expected to involve extensive coordination among party workers, with training sessions and resource materials provided to ensure effective communication of the DMK's policies and achievements. The party's leadership has called for unity and diligence among its ranks to achieve the enrolment targets set forth in the resolution.
