TVK Strategist Issues Apology Amid Political Backlash

Aadhav Arjuna, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam general secretary for election campaign management, issued a public apology on Sunday following the circulation of a video in which he made derogatory remarks about All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami . The video, which quickly gained traction on social media, prompted widespread condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum, including senior AIADMK members and Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman.

In the video, Arjuna was heard using language deemed inappropriate and unbecoming of democratic discourse. The backlash was swift, with many political figures and commentators criticising the tone and content of his remarks. Responding to the uproar, Arjuna released an official statement expressing deep regret for his comments.

“A video of a private conversation was unfortunately leaked into the public domain. I have always upheld the principles of democracy and have never resorted to personal attacks in my public life,” he stated. He further acknowledged that his words in the video were inconsistent with his personal values and reiterated his commitment to principled and transparent politics.

Arjuna's political journey has been marked by controversies. Previously, while serving as the deputy general secretary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi , he was suspended for six months after making critical remarks about dynastic politics and corruption at a book release event attended by actor Vijay. VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan cited Arjuna's actions as detrimental to the party's interests and discipline.

Arjuna's political affiliations have evolved over time. He initially collaborated with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2014, contributing to the party's election strategy. Later, he joined the VCK and was appointed as deputy general secretary. Following his suspension from the VCK, Arjuna became associated with the TVK, a party founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay in February 2024. TVK positions itself as a centre-left party advocating for social justice, secularism, and egalitarianism.
