Congress Affirms K. Sudhakaran's Continuation as KPCC President Amid Leadership Speculations

The All India Congress Committee has confirmed that K. Sudhakaran will remain as the President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee , dispelling ongoing rumours about a potential leadership change within the party's state unit. This announcement comes as the party gears up for the forthcoming local body elections and the 2026 assembly polls.

In a press briefing held at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated, "There is no discussion regarding a change in the KPCC leadership. We are moving forward with collective leadership, and the high command will closely monitor the party's activities in Kerala." This statement aims to quell the speculations that have been circulating in various media outlets.

K. Sudhakaran, who has been at the helm of the KPCC since his appointment, addressed the media, expressing his commitment to the party's cause. "I am ready to step down if the high command desires. However, as of now, there has been no such directive. My focus remains on strengthening the party and ensuring victory in the upcoming elections," he remarked. Sudhakaran also dismissed the leadership change rumours as media fabrications, emphasizing that no such discussions have taken place at any level within the party.

The speculation about a possible reshuffle gained momentum following reports suggesting that the AICC was contemplating a reorganization of the state unit to infuse fresh energy ahead of the elections. Names of senior leaders, including Benny Behanan and Adoor Prakash, were purportedly under consideration for the top post. However, both the AICC and state leadership have refuted these claims.

Senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan also weighed in on the matter, stating, "There is no basis for these reports. Leaders like Shashi Tharoor and Ramesh Chennithala have already clarified that they are unaware of any such discussions. Even as a former KPCC president, I have not been informed of any leadership change." This unified stance among the senior leadership underscores the party's intent to present a cohesive front.

The AICC has expressed its displeasure over the unwarranted discussions and media comments regarding the alleged leadership change. In response, the high command has issued a stern directive to state functionaries, instructing them to refrain from engaging in such conversations, especially when no official decision has been made. This move is seen as an effort to maintain internal discipline and focus on the party's strategic objectives.

In the midst of these developments, Chandy Oommen, who had earlier voiced concerns about being sidelined during the Palakkad bypoll, has retracted his statements. He mentioned that KPCC President Sudhakaran reached out to him following his public grievances, and he now has no complaints regarding the matter. This reconciliation indicates the leadership's proactive approach to addressing internal dissent and fostering unity.

As the Congress party in Kerala prepares for the upcoming electoral challenges, the emphasis is on collective leadership and a unified strategy. The reaffirmation of K. Sudhakaran's position as KPCC President is a testament to the party's confidence in his leadership and a signal to the cadre to focus on the electoral battles ahead.
