Mohanlal offers personal apology for team

---
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal took upon himself the responsibility to defend the entire team behind controversial L2 Empuraan, although sources close to him had suggested that he was not entirely in the know of things.
I know that some of the political and social themes that have been introduced in the making of the film 'Empuraan', the second part of the 'Lucifer' franchise, have caused great distress to many of my loved ones. As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films is hostile to any political movement, ideology or religious group. Therefore, the team of 'Empuraan' and I sincerely regret the distress caused to my loved ones, and with the realisation that the responsibility for it lies with all of us who worked behind the film, we have decided together to remove such themes from the film."
The choice of words for his apology indicates that Mohanlal was not just trying to cover himself from criticism.
His defence of the entire team is also significant from the perspective of social media attacks against himself and the film. There were suggestions and insinuations that Mohanlal was misguided by director Prithviraj Sukumaran and script writer Murali Gopy.
But Lalettan, as he is known to fans and associates, refused to plough the lonely furrow.
Major Ravi, a filmmaker and BJP state vice-president, noted that Mohanlal had not viewed the film prior to its release and was deeply distressed by the controversy. He expressed confidence that Mohanlal would issue an apology, highlighting the actor's commitment to his audience.
